What gutter cleaning actually involves
What it is
A full internal clearance of the gutters (leaves, moss, silt, tennis balls — we've seen it all), plus an exterior wipe-down of the gutter face so the fascia line looks right. Downpipes checked and flushed.
Who it's for
Homeowners noticing overflow in rain, plants growing out of the gutter, birds nesting, or damp patches appearing on the external wall below the gutter line.
When you need it
At least once a year for most properties. Twice a year if you're near trees, if you've had a lot of roof moss coming down, or if you've noticed any overflow.
Why do it properly
Blocked gutters overflow. Overflowing water rots fascias, soaks brickwork and finds its way into cavities. A £100 gutter clean prevents a £2,000 damp problem.
What happens if you leave it
Every job we quote for is easier — and cheaper — than the one that follows it. Here's what tends to happen when this gets ignored.
Overflowing gutters rot fascias from the top down
Water pouring over the edge of the gutter runs straight down the fascia timber or plastic joint. Even PVC fascias have wooden battens behind them that rot silently — you don't see the damage until the boards are already gone.
Damp brickwork traces straight back to a blocked gutter
Nine times out of ten, a damp patch on an external wall is a gutter problem, not a rising damp problem. Fix the gutter and half the damp cases we see solve themselves within a season.
Nesting birds and pests love a blocked gutter
Silt and moss dams turn gutters into perfect nesting sites. Once birds are established, cleaning becomes seasonally restricted and you're stuck with the problem until they leave.
Our process
The same repeatable system on every job — so you know exactly what you're paying for and exactly what you're getting.

The detail most companies skip
How we access gutters safely
For most 2-storey homes we use ladders with correct stand-off protection, or a reach-and-pole system with a camera for hard-to-reach runs. Bungalows and awkward extensions get whatever access method is safest — we don't force ladders where they don't belong.
What we clear (and what we find)
Leaves and moss are the obvious ones. We also regularly clear: tennis balls, roofing felt fragments, bird nests (out of season), builder's rubble left in new-build gutters, and enough silt to fill a plant pot. Everything is bagged and taken away.
Standalone gutter clean vs part of a package
Booked as a standalone job, gutter cleaning includes a free exterior window clean the same visit. When gutters are cleared as part of a full roof clean, it's already included in the roof price — you're never paying twice.
Commercial gutter clearance
For commercial properties, warehouses and larger buildings, we quote based on linear metres, height and access. Method statements and RAMS available.
Frequently asked questions
How much does gutter cleaning cost?+
Standalone gutter cleans typically run £80–£180 for domestic properties, depending on size, height and access. Commercial and multi-storey work is quoted per site.
How often should I clean my gutters?+
Once a year minimum. Twice a year if you're surrounded by trees, or if you've just had a roof clean that could have knocked debris into the gutters.
Do you really include a free window clean?+
Yes — with any standalone gutter clean, exterior window cleaning is included the same visit. We started doing it because we were already there with the equipment; it's stuck as a policy.
How long does it take?+
Most 3-bed semis are 45–90 minutes for gutters plus a quick window clean. Larger or awkward properties can run to half a day.
Can you clear blocked downpipes too?+
Yes — downpipes are flushed and rodded as part of the standard job if they show signs of blockage.
Do you provide before/after photos?+
On request, always. Especially useful for landlords and letting agents who need proof the work happened.
Do you cover Cardiff, Swansea and Bridgend?+
Yes — full South Wales coverage across Port Talbot, Swansea, Bridgend, Neath, Cardiff, Porthcawl, Maesteg and the Vale.
What if my gutters are damaged, not just blocked?+
We'll flag it with photos and give you an honest opinion. We don't do full gutter replacements, but we'll tell you if you need one before charging for a clean that won't fix the problem.
