What steam cleaning actually involves
What it is
High-temperature steam cleaning paired with a Honda GX390 pressure washer — used together, they lift contamination that cold-water pressure alone can't budge.
Who it's for
Homeowners with heavily-stained patios and paths, landlords cleaning up between tenants, and commercial clients dealing with gum, grease, oil or graffiti.
When you need it
When cold pressure washing has already been tried and hasn't fully worked, or on stains that are known to be tough — chewing gum, oil, ingrained black spot, forecourt contamination.
Why do it properly
Heat breaks the bond between the contaminant and the surface. Cold water alone just pushes it around. For the worst stains, steam is the difference between 'better' and 'gone'.
What happens if you leave it
Every job we quote for is easier — and cheaper — than the one that follows it. Here's what tends to happen when this gets ignored.
Cold pressure lightens tough stains — steam removes them
Oil, gum and heavy black spot are chemically bonded to the surface. Cold water pressure lifts loose surface dirt around them; only heat breaks the bond that keeps the actual stain in place.
Repeated cold-wash attempts wear the surface out first
Every pass with cold pressure erodes a little bit of the surface. If the stain isn't shifting, doubling the pressure just damages the substrate faster. Steam does the same work at lower pressure.
Chewing gum destroys the look of a forecourt or entrance
For commercial premises, ingrained gum on the entrance path is often the single most visible negative to a customer walking in. Nothing else screams 'neglected' quite as loudly.

What you actually get out of it
Concrete outcomes — not vague promises.
Heat solves what pressure can't
Steam breaks contaminant bonds — cold water only rinses what's already loose.
Less damage to the substrate
Effective at lower pressures because the heat is doing the work.
Kills organic growth outright
Steam sterilises the surface — algae and moss don't survive it.
Works on multiple surfaces
Patios, driveways, walls, roofs, commercial forecourts — different settings, same principle.
Great for gum & oil
The two stains cold pressure washers famously fail at — steam handles both.
One team, one visit

The detail most companies skip
Where steam earns its keep
Chewing gum on shopfront paving, oil drips on driveways, forecourt contamination on petrol stations, ingrained black spot on Indian sandstone, graffiti on masonry, and any exterior surface that a standard cold pressure wash has already partly cleaned but not finished.
The Honda GX390 setup
The Honda GX390 is a proper industrial engine — the workhorse of professional pressure washing. Paired with a rotary surface cleaner or steam attachment, it delivers consistent flow and pressure at commercial scale. It's not a rented DIY machine.
When steam isn't the right answer
Not every job needs steam. Standard block paving cleans, general driveway greening, most render softwashing — cold water and the right chemistry is enough. We quote steam only when the stain genuinely needs it, so you're not paying for firepower you don't need.
Commercial steam cleaning
For commercial premises — forecourts, entrances, loading areas, refuse points — we schedule around trading hours and provide RAMS as standard.
Frequently asked questions
How much does steam cleaning cost?+
Steam pricing depends heavily on the surface area and severity. Smaller domestic steam jobs (spot removals, small patios with tough stains) start around £150; commercial work is quoted per site.
Will steam damage my patio?+
Not when applied correctly. Steam is often gentler than high-pressure cold water because it works with heat instead of force. We test-patch first to confirm the setting.
Can you remove chewing gum?+
Yes — this is one of the classic use-cases for steam. Every piece lifts cleanly with the right tip and dwell time.
Can you remove oil stains?+
Fresh oil, almost always. Old, deeply-soaked stains lighten significantly but may leave a shadow — we'll test-patch and set expectations before starting.
Is steam better than pressure washing?+
It's not better in general — it's better for a specific set of problems. For everyday green algae, cold pressure is fine. For gum, oil and heavy contamination, steam is the right tool.
How long does the job take?+
Spot removals can be under an hour. Full patio or driveway steam cleans typically fill a day.
Do you cover commercial premises?+
Yes — forecourts, entrances, refuse areas, cladding. Quoted per site with method statements provided.
Where do you steam clean?+
Across South Wales — Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff, Bridgend, Neath, Porthcawl, Maesteg and the Vale of Glamorgan.
